The Significant Others Organization is currently raising money to update the play structure at the Grand Anse Campus. The SO/GAP play structure is the only play structure our children have to play on and it is in desperate need of some updating. There are almost 40 SOs who have children, ranging in age from 6 months to 8 years old. Every term brings new SOs to Grenada and there are always at least a few with children.
The SO group provides a great social network for us and our children; however, the SO/GAP play structure is old and lacks many simple “toys.” It is very small and provides limited opportunities of play. There are only two swings for the really little ones. The children that are just starting to walk, climb and run have nothing to climb on because the one ladder that is there is too steep and high. There are simple “toys” that we all remember having as kids ourselves that the SO/GAP play structure does not have.
The SO children would love to have the opportunity to play on monkey bars, seesaws, a pole to slide down and climb up. These are common place in parks back home and provide children the opportunity to build strength and learn to work together. As all of us know who have kids, bringing your child to Grenada can be terrifying. We worry about all sorts of things: schools, doctors, immunizations, friends for our children, just to name a few. Although a couple of years may not seem like much in the long run, for a child it is a lifetime. The children get moved around and have to leave “their world” as they see it. It would be nice for our children to have a play structure similar to ones they are familiar with at home. To be able to provide the opportunities of play our SO children deserve to have.
It will take a lot of work, but I believe we will be able to provide a great play structure for all SO children, present and future. Thank you for supporting our fellow SOs.

Why: The SO/GAP play structure is used by the children of SOs, students and faculty alike. It’s a safe environment for our kids to play and we’d like to update the current playground equipment with a few new things so our children may have the best experience possible.
When: February 19th, 11am – 3pm
Where: Upper Bus Stop ( in Pavilion )
